About Susan Verekar

I believe the strongest work begins with curiosity rather than certainty.

Whether developing a surface design collection, shaping wood veneer into sculptural form, or building atmosphere through paint, I’m drawn to the space where intuition and structure meet. My practice is rooted in observation—finding connections between nature, material, memory, and design—and allowing those relationships to guide the final outcome.

Rather than working within a single medium, I move between disciplines. Surface design, accessories, product development, fine art, sculpture, and printmaking each become different ways of exploring the same question: how can thoughtful design evoke emotion, invite pause, and create lasting connection?

Today, my work spans independent fine art and commercial design for fashion, accessories, lifestyle, and consumer brands. The storytelling and material sensitivity of the studio inform my product work, while the clarity, collaboration, and problem-solving of design continue to shape my artistic practice.

Creative Process & Approach

At the heart of my work is curiosity—an instinct to explore an idea through the medium that serves it best.

A concept may begin as a sketch, a painting, a material study, or a visual reference and evolve into a surface pattern, accessory, product, or fine-art piece. The process changes with the project, but the approach remains consistent: observe, refine, and build until the work feels both distinctive and resolved.

I’m interested in creating work with atmosphere and intention—whether it lives on a gallery wall, becomes part of a collection, or takes shape as a thoughtfully designed object.
