About the Artist

Susan Verekar is a fine artist whose work explores the quiet tension between movement and stillness, nature and form, shadow and light. Drawing from coastal landscapes, natural materials, and the meditative rhythms of water, her pieces evoke a sense of calm presence — a visual language of reflection and restraint.

Working across mediums including hand-formed wood veneer sculpture, atmospheric cyanotypes, and oil on canvas, Susan’s process is deeply intuitive. Whether sculpting a rigid surface to appear fluid or collaborating with light through historical printmaking techniques, she embraces unpredictability as a creative partner. Each piece is one of a kind — shaped by time, texture, and the organic interaction of materials.

Her work has been collected by private and corporate clients and is designed for design-forward spaces that value craftsmanship, serenity, and subtle impact. With every piece, she aims to create not just an artwork, but an atmosphere — a place to pause.

Creative Process & Philosophy

At the heart of my work is a deep trust in intuition — a willingness to follow form, light, and material rather than impose control. Whether I'm sculpting a sheet of wood veneer into a quiet curve or coaxing shapes from light and salt in a cyanotype, I approach each piece as a dialogue rather than a plan.

My process is fluid and responsive. I often don’t know exactly what will emerge until I’m in it — until the grain bends just so, or the sunlight develops an unexpected bloom in the deep blues. That element of unpredictability is not only accepted, but embraced. It’s where the most honest moments are found.

What I’m ultimately searching for is balance — between structure and softness, motion and stillness, depth and lightness. Each piece is a meditation on that edge, where form feels both grounded and open, deliberate and free.

The work I create is not meant to shout. It’s meant to invite — to bring a sense of calm presence into the spaces it inhabits.
